Target Sets To Come To NHP

Target AEveryone’s favorite department store is looking to edge its way into New Hyde Park at the Lake Success Shopping Center this year.

Recently, Target submitted an application to the Town of North Hempstead to open a store at the old Sears location that is located at 1400 Union Tpke., which closed in November 2018. All Sears locations closed due to Sears Holdings Corps. struggle to stay afloat in the ever-changing landscape of brick and mortar stores.

Currently, Target plans to occupy only the cellar and the ground floor of the building while another retailer will occupy the second floor with a separate entrance. So far, there is no word on what that second retailer might be.

This new Target location would follow Target’s biggest “small” store format in the 78,400-square-foot area and will also have a Starbucks and CVS pharmacy. Rosenbaum Design Group, local architects from Lake Success, has produced the plans and details for the store renovations, which have not yet been finalized.

The shopping center’s landlord, Lake Success Shopping Center LLC, has submitted a proposal for renovation work to the town and is set to go before the town’s zoning board of appeals on Wednesday, Jan. 8.

The Lake Success Shopping Center seems to be undergoing an economic boom in recent years. Just recently, popular makeup chain Sephora opened its doors to the public. Restaurant Wild Fig is also set to open its doors in early 2020 in the shopping center as well. Wild Fig has locations in Roslyn and Glen Cove. The seasonal store Everything Christmas also seems to be attracting many customers to the area for the holiday season.
