The Mineola-Garden City Rotary Club was privileged and honored to welcome Hempstead Town Supervisor Laura Gillen as guest speaker at its most recent lunch meeting at the Garden City Hotel.

By using a business-oriented approach from her years in the private sector, Gillen announced that she has saved taxpayers millions of dollars. One example was the rebid of a contract relating to workers’ compensation that had not been bid since 1972, which saved more than $1 million in the first two months with new vendors. Focusing on infrastructure, the supervisor noted that her administration has made an unprecedented investment in road repair among other efforts toward sustainability and good government.
