Guitar Concert Jan. 17


Brooklyn-based guitarist Carlos Pavan will be performing a free recital at the Westbury Memorial Public Library on Sunday, Jan. 17 at 2:30 p.m. He will be playing original works and music from Argentina.

IMG_8056Brooklyn based Pavan is a new wave of guitar composers with a mix of tradition and influences. Versatile and original, he blends folkloric rhythms from his native Argentina with New York jazz harmonies and classical technique/forms, the concert will feature Pavan’s original pieces and Argentine traditional composers.

Pavan began his guitar training at the age of 12 and has since become one of the most diverse guitarists and composers for contemporary music ( guitar , strings, wind, brass and chamber). Upon his graduation from the school of popular music, La Colmena (Argentina), he started teaching in private schools while traveling to Buenos Aires to study under Pino Marrone ( jazz guitar). He arrived to New York in 2000 to pursue musical studies & received a full, 2-year scholarship at The Collective, and studied under numerous well known musicians and composers.
Since then, he’s performed at well-renowned venues such as Lincoln Center, New York City Center, Tango USA (Canada), New England Conservatory Jordan Hall (Boston), Brooklyn (Vivaldi concert in D with chamber orchestra) , Merkin Hall at Kaufman Center (Manhattan), Brooklyn Borough Hall (NPF chamber orchestra), Philadelphia Museum (Tango concert) , Connecticut Festival Guitars of the world , Tribute to Astor Piazzolla (New Jersey), Tango trio (Washington DC), Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture, Fondation Danoise / Maison du Mexique (Paris, France) and three concerts in Ireland (Dublin, Galway and Limerick) to name a few. His latest CD Suite del Interior (original compositions for guitar and string quartet) is a blend of Argentine tango/folk dances, jazz harmonies and classical forms, praised by World Music Report ” is throughout the album that Carlos Pavan shows his ingenuity as a composer who especially understands and uses colour brilliantly in his writing and arrangements,” composed/arranged/produced by himself and recorded with special guest PUBLIQuartet. When not performing, he offers private guitar lessons and is also an instructor at Noel Pointer Foundation.
