Lacrosse Off To Hot Start
The Mineola Boys Lacrosse team is off to a 5-1 start this season, having defeated both Division and Calhoun high schools during the spring recess in one-goal games. The Mustangs have also defeated Friends Academy and Floral Park in non-conference play while dropping a game to Class B powerhouse Bethpage.

In conference play, the Mustangs are 1-0 and have a Wednesday match-up at Hampton Field with Class C perennial favorite Cold Spring Harbor. Offensively, the Mustangs are led by seniors Pete McCormack, Brian Smith, Chris Lockwood, James Gerstner and junior Colin Renner.

On the defensive side of the ball the Mustangs are led by seniors Anthony Sarno, Ryan Eccher, Andrew Pereira and John Clancy in the goal. The lacrosse team is also thrilled to have both seniors Kyle Dunleavy and Edien Hincapie recently return to the team. These two, three-sport standouts were both injured early in the football season and have worked tirelessly to get back on the field. Both were expected to be important contributors to the success of this year’s team.

Girls Track Looks Ahead
The Mineola High School Girls’ spring track team is off to a terrific start in for the 2015 season, beating East Rockaway and Cold Spring Harbor. Senior Captain Debborah Gabbay has been a dominant threat in the 100 meter high hurdles during league competition. Gabbay plans to qualify for the New York State Championship in June to end her final year of an impressive career with a bang.

The Mustang’s second senior Captain Caitie Cunningham is nothing short of a utility weapon, competing in everything from the 400 meter intermediate hurdles to the triple jump and relay races. Junior Captain Claudia Serna has led the distance events scoring in the 1600, 800, and 4×800 meter relay events consistently, a feat that is as impressive as it is challenging. The Mineola Girls Track Team has a bright future ahead. Nicole Chiu, Joanne Kubat, Emily O’ Connell, and Courtney Villalona have all been a key piece to the teams success this season.
